Here are some basic instructions when editing the maps

Ask questions if you are in doubt

If you have doubt about a rule or a spot, you can totally ask the community for help on Discord in the channel #mapping-questions

Draw segments on top of blockfaces

When drawing a new segment, make sure to do it on top of the blockfaces (side of the streets marked in grey) to have a clean and beautiful map. You will notice the editor will snap the segment to the blockfaces.

If there are no blockfaces, ask @moderator on #mapping-questions on Discord to add them for the city you are working on.

Don’t edit a spot where you don’t understand the rules

If you don’t understand the rules in a spot, it’s ok to leave it as is and post on Discord to have other community members have a look at it

Don’t take into accounts driveways that are shorter than 2 spots ie 10m

We don’t want to have too many small segments because it makes it harder to digest for users of the app. So if there is a driveway shorter than 2 spots ie 10m, no need to draw 2 separate segments. If you keep adding that, penalties might be applied because others in the past have used this to maximize their SPTC earnings.

This rule does not apply to alleys. You should create separate segments when the street is separated by alleys

Don’t add a rule that you don’t see in the imagery

There are some rules like 72h max parking that the city applies but that are not in parking signs. No need to add those. You can post on Discord and tag @engineer and the engineering team will add them programmatically.
